Boy Scout Troop 584 - Maple Grove, Minnesota

Boy Scout Troop 584 was founded in 1970 and is the oldest Troop in Maple Grove.  Our chartering organization is the Maple Grove Lions and we meet regularly at Crosswinds Church on Weaver Lake Road.

Our Troop has about 60 registered scouts ranging in age from 11 to 17 and we follow the ideals and methods of the Boy Scouts of America.  We have had over 100 Eagle Scouts in our troop averaging about 2 scouts a year achieving the Eagle rank.

We believe our main purpose is to prepare future leaders and follow the core purpose and mission of Boy Scouts:

It is the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America to provide an effective program designed to instill within youth desirable qualities of character, to train them in the responsibilities of participatory citizenship, and to help develop their personal fitness, providing this country with citizens who:

  • Are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit
  • Have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness.
  • Have personal and stable values firmly based on religious concepts.
  • Have a desire and the skills to help others.
  • Understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems.
  • Are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand America's role in the world.
  • Have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people.
  • Are prepared to fulfill the varied responsibilities of participating in and giving leadership to American society and in other forums in the world.

It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential.  The values we strive to instill are based upon those found in the Scout Oath and Law.

Mechanics:
  • The troop meets every week through the school year on Tuesdays to have troop meetings, work on skills, have fun, and develop leadership.
  • The troop has short/weekend camp outs 9~10 times throughout the year (generally Sept-June). Weekend Camping typically costs $25~40 per trip and is optional - each event is a voluntary signup.
  • Many scouts in the troop participate in the week long Many Point campout (July of every year) where they work on merit badges, rank advancement, and develop friendship and connect with Scouts across Minnesota.
  • We also have Scouts who participate in high adventure camps such as Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota, Philmont in New Mexico, Sea Base in Florida, and traveling to the National Jamboree or Summit Bechtel in West Virginia.
  • Scouts pursue merit badges based on personal interest and if they have a desire to progress through the scout ranks.
  • Our Scouts also actively participate in community service projects such as Scouting for Food, Lions club events, and other events.
  • Scouts also participate in fundraising activities to help pay for their campouts and to help support the troop.
  • Cost of joining:  $45 sign up fee, ~$190 per year BSA/Council registration, and purchase of uniform (shirt).
